MMA5624 Edit web #1 Professional Holster

This holster is based on the Bruce Nelson Combat Leather #1 Professional. The full grip accessibility allows for an instant and consistent firing grip. The boned front sight channel prevents snags during the draw. The reinforced holster opening provides easy eyes off re-holstering. The vertical orientation and open top allows the fastest wrist locked draw. Weapon retention is achieved by hand molding and boning for an exact pistol fit. Concealment is achieved by the double belt loop system in that the rear belt loop pulls the grip into the body, and the slide does not extend out and forward like in a holster made with forward cant.

Additional Info:

This holster was originally designed as a cross draw holster and does this with great comfort for the wearer and provides easier access while sitting. While standing, it allows clearing of a coat by simply reaching inside the coat as opposed to sweeping the coat away during a strong side draw. As a standard, I make this holster to be worn on the strong side. If you would like a cross draw, specify this when ordering.

#2 Professional Thumb Snap Holster

The #2 holster is basically the same as the #1 holster but with the addition of a metal reinforced thumb snap strap. Personal criteria should be the deciding factor in determining if you need the #2 thumb snap holster. If you are an individual performing unusual physical activities and draw speed is less critical, then the #2 holster might be preferred. Mass produced thumb snap holsters are generally made with less than favorable fit. My #2 holster is fitted the same way as the #1 so that the thumb snap is an additional retention devise.

MMA5624 Edit web #4 American Handgunner Special Holster

The American Handgunner Special (AHS) is a holster I designed custom for Sammy Reese of the American Handgunner Magazine. This holster has all the same features and specs as my #1 holster but with the addition of a leather "sweat guard". The sweat guard is very useful during the summer. It was designed primarily to be worn under an un-tucked shirt, it protects the pistol finish from sweat as well as protects your skin from being pinched by the hammer and thumb safety.

2016 08 06 0919 Edit web #5 1911 Holster

I have had quite a few requests for a casual 1911 holster, so here it is. This is my version of the Range Holster, the BBQ Holster, the Field Holster, or the Match Holster. It is my favorite while on the ATV at the ranch, for hunting, or just plain looking cool with that custom 1911. This is a very comfortable holster.

The full grip accessibility allows for an instant and consistent firing grip. The boned front sight channel prevents snags during the draw. The vertical orientation and open top allows the fastest wrist locked draw. Weapon retention is achieved by hand molding and boning for an exact pistol fit.

This holster is not recommended for other than casual carry. Due to the lower ride, it is much less concealable than a #1 holster. Additionally, this design does not lend itself well to weapon retention in the event of a physical confrontation.

MMA2468 Edit web #6 Selous Scout Holster

This holster has always been an intriguing design to me and comes with great history, so I decided to offer it.

During the middle 1970’s the nation of Rhodesia fought a war against communist backed insurgents attempting to over throw the white controlled government. During this conflict a number of foreign nationals enlisted in the Rhodesian Army to help resist the communist backed terrorist forces. Among the American and European mercenary soldiers serving with the Rhodesian, both the P35 Browning and M1911 pistol were very popular. Do to the embargo imposed upon Rhodesia concerning arms and related equipment, many items were produced locally in country. Vidar Nakling of Norway handmade holsters, belts and magazine pouches for his buddies in the Rhodesian forces. Using Kudu hide, he carefully produced very functional rigs that were highly favored by not only the troops, but his IPSC shooting buddies in Rhodesia. The holster design used by Vidar Nakling was very much like the popular Sickinger brand combat holster made in West Germany that used two pieces of leather sewn together to form a weld in both the front and back. Vidar made his holster with much less belt loop drop versus the Sickinger design. I remember Andy Langley using his Vitar Nakling " Rhodesian" rig with great success on the range. It was a favorite of many of the 'Selous Scouts' that made-up Rhodesia's most elite counter terror unit. Andy Langley’s 'Rhodesian' holster rig was stolen from him during his time working the protective detail business in Central America. He was very bitter about the loss of his 'Vidar Rhodesian rig'.

Thad Rybka began making his version of this design holster called the 'Rhodesian' in the 80s. Rybka's holsters are top quality and still in high demand.

Recently, my friend John Markwell took his well-worn and ready to be put out to pasture Rybka 'Rhodesian' holster to Erik to ask him to re-create the Rhodesian. Erik has done a masterful job; his final product is superb....my every day 1911 rides in one of the first ones Erik Little produced and was presented to me at the 2016 SHOT Show. I think Erik has hit this one out of the park. It is a must have item if you are a 1911 fan.

IWB (Inside Waist Band) Holsters Semi-Auto

stitch.jpg

MM 7815.1 #7 Thunder Ranch Special (TRS) IWB Holster

Inside the waist band (IWB) holsters are more popular than ever and for good reason; a properly designed IWB rig will offer a tremendous concealment advantage over conventional belt holsters or designs worn on the outside of the waist band. For this reason among others the IWB holster has been the choice of knowledgeable gunmen for decades.

The IWB holster has also come a long way, with designs evolving out of early Chick Gaylord offerings to those of Seventrees and later the classic Bruce Nelson designed Summer Special. Often times a simple rig is the best solution to this concealment method and I am proud to offer my adaptation on the classic Bruce Nelson design, the #7 Thunder Ranch Special.

The #7 TRS is an IWB holster designed by me with input and collaboration from Clint Smith of Thunder Ranch. The #7 IWB gets its roots from the classic Nelson designed Summer Special and includes all of the features Clint feels are desirable on an IWB holster.

The #7 TRS is designed to be worn just behind the point of the hip with minimal bulk in order to provide an incredibly comfortable and secure rig with an extremely fast presentation. Full grip accessibility allows for an instant and consistent firing grip while a sewn sight channel keeps the front sight clean and free from snags during the presentation. Precise hand molding and boning insures a proper friction fit and retention of the holstered pistol while the reinforced top band prevents holster from closing once the pistol is withdrawn allowing for unfettered one-handed holstering.

Based on both Clint’s and my experience with IWB holsters, the base configuration for the #7 TRS will come standard with split snap loops and no sweat/pinch guard. A sweat/pinch guard is an available option, however, neither Clint nor I like a sweat/pinch guard on our holsters because it does not allow for your thumb to index the safety on a 1911 during the initial grip.

An additional key feature I have designed into the #7 TRS is the modularity of the belt loops. The loop system is removable with the following configurations available: This loop system is available in natural or black finish and can be purchased separately and self-attached to your holster depending on your need.

  • Split loops with DOT "Pull The Dot" snaps (available with nickel, brass, or black hardware)

The standard for the TRS is the traditional rough out main body and smooth hair side for the mouth band and loops. You may choose smooth hair side for the main body if desired.

  1. The "sweat shield"/pinch guard can assist in keeping your T-shirt out of the holster for reholstering purposes, and protects the safety and plunger tube area from sweat and lint.
